I had a 6 door wide wardrobe built in my 3rd bedroom/office. As I work from home I wanted them to be to colourful, but not over powering.
The units were built of MDF, so the first job was to paint inside and out with Dulux Professional MDF primer – this was not easy to work with. It was kind of sticky and didn’t want to spread. I gave up with the roller and ended up painting most of it with a brush.
Outside….
Dulux Professional Oil Based Eggshell in York White. I was hoping to see a stronger hint of pink than this turned out. Then I bought some wooden hearts from Amazon and set about painting them with pearlized acrylic paints, before attaching to silver ribbon. These were then attached to the doors using command strips (easy to remove if I get board with them). The top doors were finished with decals of humming birds.
Inside…..
Dulux heritage Velvet Matt in Eastern Silks (hot pink) for the edges and Light Teal (the soft turquoise). The shelves were coated in fablon.
To complete the look I add black Ikea Kalax storage boxes which I labelled with rose gold letters, and even the shoe boxes got covered in Fablon.
- Light Shade
- Lamp shade and foot stool
Another skill I have learnt recently is how to make my own lampshades. I love the fabric I found with the tropic flowers and humming birds, The footstool feet was painted with the same Eastern Silks as the wardrobes and my bureau that I did earlier in the year.
The final touch was to make a jolly door sign for the office. Stickers and sign from HobbyCraft and paint was my usual stock of pearlized acrylics.
